Brand Workshop

When you start to think about your brand not as an identity system (fonts, logos and colours) you realise there is a whole other dimension to branding. When businesses focus solely on the brand identity you typically find there is no brand personality. As customers we like to understand what your brand represents and what your brand stands for! This goes way beyond a wordmark or logo.

Of course your brand name and identity are important but branding goes beyond this, it is more than just what meets the eye and a workshop enables you to gain the clarity you need to understand this and define your brand core.

Our branding workshops are designed to define your company. We look to understand what you do and how you do it but more importantly understand why you do what you do. Who is your ideal customer (target customer)? Why should they care about your brand?

We work systematically through our brand process, each phase helping to unlock the true value and potential of your brand. Along the way we help to build brand personality, character and story which helps to position the brand in the minds of your ideal customer.  Combined your brand’s values, brand voice and personality all help to make up your brand persona. Building a strong brand core is imperative for any business wanting to grow and scale their business.

    Unlock Your Full Brand Potential

At the start of our branding workshop we set out the key objectives and look to understand the challenges you face. Quite often brand positioning is one of the more common challenges. We work through a number of brand exercises which allow us to understand your guiding principles, why the brand exists, what makes you different and how we will successfully position your brand in the minds of your ideal customers (target audience or target customers). This is such a key task in terms of helping customers determine why they should pick your brand over the other options available to them.

All businesses have a compelling story and brand vision but surprisingly many brands are unable to effectively articulate it. Our workshops help teams to answer and face their brands biggest challenges. We work collaboratively with the founders and executive team to understand how to create a unique and distinctive brand that will be perfectly positioned for their target audience.

How will a brand Strategy workshop help my business?

Our brand workshops are designed a bit like a design sprint. This means we work swiftly to share ideas, uncover the challenges you face and guide you through a process which enables you to gain both visual and verbal brand clarity. We like to start thinking of your brand as a real person that way it makes it easier to start building character and personality. Whilst this seems like a simple exercise it is actually very effective in breaking down any of the barriers that prevent people from working on their brand.

As a brand and design agency Grey Coffee can support you with facilitating a brand workshop, we also offer brand consultancy and we can also assist with the design implementation too. Our services are perfect if you wish to create a new brand identity, develop a new memorable tagline or position your brand for future growth. Our team currently consists of a brand consultant, brand designer and brand strategist that can support you with your project.

Here are some common questions around brand workshops:

    What is a brand workshop?

A workshop helps to create the clarity required to refine and implement a successful brand strategy. The workshop is designed to challenge and define ideas around your brand. It ensures everyone is aligned and on the same page when it comes to your brands core values and future positioning. We work within a collaborative environment to understand the challenges you face as a brand and work together to build a brand that will be true to your brand’s purpose and reach your business goals.  The workshop format allows us to cover topics in more detail and go beyond the surface level information to unlock much deeper insights about your brand.

What happens in a brand building workshop?

A workshop format brings together founders, key stakeholders, business leaders and members of the executive team to ensure everyone is aligned and consistently pulling together in the same direction. It usually runs over an agreed amount of time and is led by a branding expert.

A series of tasks, exercises and meaningful conversations are carried out to help create the clarity required to position the brand for future growth (and achieve your business goals).  This can include discussions around brand experience, brand purpose, brand vision, target audience, brand values, brand archetype, the brand’s personality, the brand’s identity, tone of voice and much more.

What is a brand strategy workshop?

A brand strategy workshop is carried out to help define a brand. A brand strategy workshop is helpful for brands that are looking to scale and grow. The workshop environment helps to spark conversation, uncover insight and opportunities that will help to strengthen the strategic direction of the brand to become more profitable. The first step to building and developing your brand (long term) is to be clear on the underlying brand strategy. This will underpin all future brand growth.

How do you prepare for a brand meeting?

The key to preparing for a brand meeting is as follows:

    • Have clear objectives before entering the meeting as to what you wish to achieve.
    • Make sure you have core team members attend the meeting so that you can make key decisions and assign actions in the meeting.
    • Ensure you have a good understanding of the competitive landscape and the challenges you wish to overcome in the meeting.
    • Stay focussed on the overall goals and objectives of the meeting and try not to spend too much time discussing off-topic.
    • Ensure everyone involved in the meeting has the opportunity to contribute ideas and have their say.
    • Don’t be afraid to ask questions and follow up questions. Remember we want to go beyond the surface level info and questions will help to uncover new insight.

Why is a brand workshop important?

Workshops are an important aspect because it ensures everyone is aligned and in agreement with the core fundamentals and future direction of the brand. It provides clarity around some of the brands biggest questions and creates a clear pathway forward which impacts business growth and brand loyalty. Having a clear vision statement and understanding how to consistently communicate your brand in line with your vision is crucial to consistency and growth.

Are brand workshops delivered online or in person?

At Grey Coffee we have two workshop formats. We can run a brand workshop online or in person.

Our online format works well for big and small teams. They encourage people to interact and engage on the existing brand challenges. We also have a format that we deliver in person either at an office or preferably at an agreed location away from the office.

A remote location away from the office really helps to reduce distractions and keep everyone focussed at the same time.

What is the ultimate goal of a brand workshop?

The ultimate goal with our brand strategy workshop is to create a clear path forward for your brand. It’s about understanding how the core brand elements come together and how we can then leverage this information to build a successful branding strategy and create a cohesive brand image. The most successful brands connect with us on an emotional level and inspire human connection (we feel connected to brands). Your brand impacts every customer touch-point and therefore brand thinking should be considered through out the whole customer journey. (including social media content, marketing strategies and even advertising campaigns)
